10 Reasons Why You Should Start Eating 3 Bananas Per Day – And No, They Won’t Make You Fat

Health gurus are “going bananas” for bananas!
When any creature naturally relies on or gravitates toward a specific food, you can be sure Mother Nature has a hand in it.

And monkeys and other primates, and their love for bananas, is no exception.
So, why do primates actually love their bananas so much? Well, it’s safe to say they don’t likely convene daily to discuss the nutritional value of this common fruit with their fellow primates. It’s more likely, in fact, probable, that they simply just know—innately—that their bodies need them.

And just like our primate cousins, humans can also gain a lot from simply eating three bananas a day, according to a study published in the Journal of the American College of Cardiology.

High Potassium = Lower Risk of Blood Clot

Apparently, researchers from both England and Italy, found that eating one banana for breakfast, one for lunch and then another one at dinner actually provides enough potassium to reduce the risk of developing a blood clot in your brain, which can ultimately lead to a stroke—and by as much as 21 per cent!

These results were derived from the pooled analysis of 11 studies that date back as far as the mid-60s and reveal that approximately 1,600 mg of daily potassium intake is enough to lower your risk of stroke.

When you consider that the average banana contains approximately 500 milligrams of potassium that means you only have to eat about three average size bananas to obtain enough potassium to get these life-saving results.

Researchers at San Diego School of Medicine, also found that an overall diet high in potassium can actually reduce the risk of stroke by as much as 40 percent.

The dietary fiber in bananas has been shown to help reduce inflammation in your bowels because it helps eliminate waste and toxins from your body, which then generally helps to keep your arteries clean and clear from dangerous plague build-up that can cause cardiovascular issues. That’s a lot of kick from just be eating something you probably already love!

But reducing the risk of strokes is not the only thing this yellow fruit is good for. Here are 10 pretty impressive reasons you should start adding bananas to your daily diet right now.

1. Excellent Source of Nutrients Nutrition

One banana contains about 110 calories and is full of nutrients and vitamins. In fact, the average banana contains:
• 0.5 grams of fat
• 27 grams of carbohydrates
• 14 grams of sugar
• 3 grams of fiber
• 1 gram of protein
• 25% vitamin B6
• 16% manganese
• 14% vitamin C
• 12% potassium
• 12% fiber
• 10% copper
• 10% biotin
• 8% magnesium
• 2% Iron

2. Quick Energy Boost

Studies show that if you eat those three stroke-reducing bananas in one sitting prior to your workout, they will give you the extra energy boost you need to make it through a strenuous 90-minute workout, with energy to spare!
And post-workout, the bananas provide your body with the vital nutrients it needs to repair your muscles and balance your water retention (after all that sweating from your high-intensity workout.)
Bananas are an excellent food to help replenish your glucose reserves, giving your body the energy it needs to rebuild muscle.
A 2012 study published in PLOS, revealed bananas are basically as effective as Gatorade for providing nutritional support to “trained cyclists during prolonged and intensive exercise.”
So, instead of relying on those glucose-packed sports drinks or snacks, try eating a banana instead.

3. Improves Circulation/Blood Pressure

Potassium is necessary to help regulate blood flow and hydration levels within your body, thereby allowing oxygen to reach your cells.
Potassium can further help to lower high blood pressure by counteracting the effects of sodium within your blood.
And according to studies, the best way to get potassium is naturally—through food in your diet in such things as fresh fruits and vegetables, including, of course, the banana.

4. Increase Bone Mass

Diets rich in potassium-packed fruits such as bananas may help women prevent osteoporosis, according to a study published in the Journal of Clinical Endocrinology and Metabolism.
And this is especially true if you love salty foods since “…potassium appears to counteract the increased urinary calcium loss caused by the high-salt diets typical of most Americans, thus helping to prevent bones from thinning out at a fast rate,” according to Dr. Deborah Sellmeyer, assistant adjunct professor of endocrinology and metabolism at the University of California at San Francisco.
Bananas are also high in manganese and studies show that low manganese levels can contribute to poor bone health.

5. Good for your Skin

Bananas can help you keep that perfect complexion because just one banana contains 16 percent of the manganese you need for the day and about 14 percent of the Vitamin C that helps in collagen production, which, of course, helps to keep you looking young.
Research also shows that manganese is a powerful anti-inflammatory and antioxidant—both of which naturally slow aging by reducing free-radical damage and oxidative stress.

6. Improve Your Mood

You may have heard of the amino acid tryptophan in relation to your Thanksgiving dinner—turkey is said to be high in tryptophan, which is why you always feel more relaxed and even tired after a nice turkey dinner.

But turkey is not the only food that contains tryptophan, bananas also contain significant amounts of the amino acid, which helps to regulate serotonin—the hormone responsible for your mood.
It’s a well-known fact in the scientific community that proper levels of serotonin can alter your mood (make you happy) and prevent such things as depression and even anxiety.
Not only that, but bananas also contain specific antioxidants that have been shown in studies to promote the release of dopamine—another mood-enhancing hormone—within your brain.

7. Anemia

Iron deficiency and anemia affect around 24.8 percent of the world’s population according to the World Health Organization (WHO).
While bananas are not a significant source of iron, they do apparently stimulate the production of hemoglobin in your blood, which can help in cases of anemia.

8. Brain Power

Manganese is essential for healthy brain function and studies also show that it can help to prevent brain-related conditions such as epilepsy and Parkinson’s.

9. Constipation

Bananas are high in fiber, which for starters, helps you feel fuller, longer, so dieters will love bananas.
But more importantly, the dietary fiber and starches in bananas help to bind the waste in your digestive tract—combined with the potassium that helps to balance water retention in your gut—together, they help keep you from becoming dehydrated.
And as you already know, fiber has another key function—it helps keep you regular so you don’t become constipated. And in doing so, it also helps to eliminate the toxins that build up in your body over time. So eating bananas regularly, can essentially keep you “regular” without having to use harsh laxatives.

10. Healthy Nervous System

Bananas are loaded with vitamin B6 (called pyridoxine). In fact one banana contains 25 percent of your recommended daily intake of this important nutrient.
Vitamin B6 is known to help produce chemicals, called neurotransmitters, that allow your brain and nerve cells to communicate with one another, thereby ensuring that such metabolic processes as fat and protein metabolism run effectively.
This vitamin is essential for proper immune system function, especially in older people. Vitamin B6, is also very important for calming and maintaining a healthy nervous system. In fact, a lack of vitamin B6 is known to actually cause nerve damage.

An amazing smoothy which can be consumes daily:

  • 1 cup finely chopped pineapple
  • ¼ cup pineapple juice
  • ½ cup yogurt
  • ¼ cup water
  • 3-4 ice cubes

Mix all ingredients in a blender and drink the smoothy in the morning or before a meal.

Here is the Benefits of Pineapple :

Arthritis Management: One of the most celebrated uses of pineapple in terms of health is its ability to reduce the inflammation of joints and muscles, particularly those associated with arthritis, a truly debilitating disease that affects millions of people around the world. Pineapples contain a relatively rare proteolytic enzyme called bromelain, which is primarily associated with breaking down complex proteins, but it also has serious anti-inflammatory effects, and has been positively correlated with reducing the signs and symptoms of arthritis in many test subjects.

PineappleImmune System: A single serving of pineapple has more than 130% of the daily requirement of vitamin-C for human beings, making it one of the richest and most delicious sources of ascorbic acid. Vitamin C is mainly associated with reducing illness and boosting the immune system by stimulating the activity of white blood cells and acting as an antioxidant to defend against the harmful effects of free radicals. Free radicals are dangerous byproducts of cellular metabolism that can damage various organ systems and disrupt function, as well as cause healthy cells to mutate into cancerous ones. The vitamin C content of pineapples defends against this.

Tissue and Cellular Health: One of the commonly overlooked benefits of vitamin C is its essential role in creating collagen. This is partly the reason why it is seen as a healing vitamin, because collagen is the essential protein base of blood vessel walls, skin, organs, and bones. High vitamin C content helps you heal wounds and injuries to the body quickly, along with defending against infections and illness.

Cancer Prevention: In addition to the antioxidant potential of vitamin C in the battle against cancer, pineapples are also rich in various other antioxidants, including vitamin A, beta carotene, bromelain, various flavonoid compounds, and high levels of manganese, which is an important co-factor of superoxide dismutase, an extremely potent free radical scavenger that has been associated with a number of different cancers. Pineapple has directly been related to preventing cancers of the mouth, throat, and breast.

Digestion: Like most fruits, pineapples are a rich source of fiber, but they are special in that they contain both soluble and insoluble fiber. This means that eating a healthy amount of pineapples can protect you from a vast amount of health conditions, including constipation, diarrhea, irritable bowel syndrome, atherosclerosis and blood clotting, as well as blood pressure. Fiber can bulk up stool, which promotes the passage of food through the digestive tract at a normal rate, and also stimulates the release of gastric and digestive juices to help food dissolve. Furthermore, it bulks up loose stool, which helps with diarrhea and IBS. Fiber also strips the blood vessels clean of excess cholesterol and eliminates it from the body, thereby boosting cardiovascular health.

Coughs and Colds: The normal immune system boosting power of vitamin C is well known, but that special enzyme, bromelain, is also connected with the reduction of phlegm and mucus build up in the respiratory tracts and sinus cavities. It therefore prevents the illnesses that cause phlegm and mucus build-up, while also treating them by loosening those materials and helping you eliminate them from your body if you’ve already contracted an illness or infection.

Bone Health: Although pineapples are not famous for having a strong calcium content, which most people immediately associate with bone health, it does have an impressive amount of manganese, which is another trace mineral that is essential in the strengthening of bones, as well as their growth and repair. Manganese is the most prominent mineral in pineapple, and a single serving can deliver more than 70% of your daily requirement of this essential mineral.

Oral Health: Along with the antioxidant compounds that protect against oral cancer, pineapples also have astringent properties, which strengthen gums and make sure that your teeth do not become loose. Astringent agents help to tighten up tissues and tone the body so things like tooth loss, hair loss, and muscle weakness or skin loosening does not occur. Pineapples are very powerful astringents and are often prescribed as a natural remedy to fix loosening of teeth or the the retraction of the gums.

Eye Health: Vision is one of the most important senses for human beings, and pineapples have been directly connected to boosting eye health and preventing the age-related deficiencies that so often occur. Macular degeneration affects many elderly people, and beta carotene can help to delay this vision problem. Keeping proper amounts of beta-carotene in your diet from fruits and vegetables is essential if you want to properly see the world well into your old age.

Blood Pressure: Pineapples are a valuable source of many minerals, and potassium is among them. This is one of the most important minerals in our body, and potassium deficiency can result in a wide array of health hazards. One of the most important functions of potassium is as a vasodilator, meaning that it eases the tension and stress of the blood vessels and promotes blood circulation to various parts of the body. When your blood vessels relax, your blood pressure is reduced and the flow of blood is less restricted. This can prevent clots from blocking the flow of blood and reduces the accumulation of plaque in the arteries and vessels. This helps people prevent conditions like atherosclerosis, heart attacks, and strokes. So eat your pineapples for a healthy heart!

Blood Circulation: In a related benefit to the vasodilating potential of potassium, pineapples also provide the body with copper, another essential mineral that functions in a number of enzymatic reactions and compounds in the body. Most notably, copper is a necessary element for the formation of healthy red blood cells. High red blood cell count increases oxygenation to the various organ systems and makes them function at optimal levels. It also increases cognitive abilities and can maintain neural pathways to prevent neural disorders like dementia and Alzheimer’s disease!

A Few Words of Warning: The benefits of eating pineapple are clear from the impressive list of qualities that you just read, but there is always something about foods that should be cautioned against, and pineapples are no exception. The bromelain in pineapples is primarily a meat-tenderizing enzyme, which is why it is so helpful in the digestion of tough foods. This can result in the softening or tenderness of your “meat” as well, meaning that your lips, gums, and tongue might experience some tenderness or sensitivity if you eat too much pineapple. Bromelain is a powerful chemical, as is vitamin C, if taken in excess. Both of these are in high proportions in pineapple, and an “overdose” can lead to vomiting, nausea, diarrhea, headaches, and nausea. Also, bromelain has been known to stimulate menstruation, so pregnant women should avoid excessive pineapple, as the high levels of bromelain can actually lead to a miscarriage in rare cases.

Other than those health concerns, grab one of these spiky tropical fruits and dig in. Your body will thank you for it!

Why is it healthy to eat 1 avocado a day?

  • Avocadoes contain more potassium than bananas – 14% and bananas 10%.
  • They contain folate for your heart’s health. Avocadoes have 23% of folate which lowers the incidences of heart disease. Vitamin E, mono-saturated fats and glutathione are also good for the heart. Folate can lower the risks of having a stroke.
  • Folate is also essential in the prevention of birth defects such as spina bifida and neural tube defect.
  • Eating avocados helps our body absorb 5 times the amount of carotenoids (lycopene and beta carotene).
  • Eye Heath – Avocados contain more carotenoid lutein than any other fruit, protecting against muscular degeneration and cataracts.
  • Avocados are high in beta-sitosterol and lower the bad cholesterol by 22%, but raise the good by 11% and also lower the blood triglycerides by 20%.
  • Some studies show that high oleic acid prevents breast cancer, inhibits tumor growth in prostate cancer and seeks out precancerous and oral cancer cells and destroys them.
  • Avocados are high in fiber and they will help you feel fuller longer, potentially helping you with weight loss. High fiber helps your metabolic health and steadies your blood sugar.
  • Avocado extract together with soybean oil can reduce the symptoms of arthritis.
  • Polyphenols and flavonoids within avocados have some anti-inflammatory properties.
  • Avocados clean your intestines and relieve your bad breath.
  • Avocado oil nourishes your skin greatly and is a beneficial treatment for psoriasis and other skin irritations.
  • It contains an antioxidant called glutathione that prevents heart disease, cancer and slows the signs of aging.
  • Glutathione also fights free radicals.

Our blood and our cells carry the oxygen all throughout our bodies. When we’re exposed to some environmental pollutants, these toxins change that oxygen in our mitochondria into free radicals destroying our cells and DNA.
This damage creates various chronic illnesses. Researchers from the Federation of American Society for Experimental Biology have found that glutathione in avocados can be absorbed into our mitochondria and then neutralize the free radicals.

Top 10 Superfoods to Lower High Blood Pressure

High blood pressure, also known as hypertension, is a major risk factor for both heart attacks and strokes. A blood pressure reading of 140/90 mm Hg or above is considered high blood pressure. In most cases, it does not cause any noticeable symptoms and is thus called the “silent killer”.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), hypertension affects one in three adults in the United States.

Many factors contribute to high blood pressure, including age, genetics, stress, obesity, a sedentary lifestyle, alcohol consumption, smoking, and excess salt intake.

By managing and controlling the risk factor, you can keep your blood pressure in check. Also, eat a healthy diet rich in several antioxidant-rich superfoods and low in saturated fats to help control the problem.

In addition, be sure to take your blood pressure medication as directed by your doctor and regularly monitor your blood pressure.

Here are the top 10 superfoods to lower high blood pressure.

1. Lemons

Lemon, a popular citrus fruit, can help regulate high BP. Its antioxidant vitamin C helps neutralize the harmful effects of free radicals.

This in turn helps lower high blood pressure, reduces high cholesterol and improves overall heart health. In addition, lemons are high in potassium that helps lower blood pressure by reducing the effects of sodium.

According to a 2014 study published in the Journal of Nutrition and Metabolism, regular lemon ingestion and walking have systolic blood pressure-lowering effects.

Drink a cup of warm water with the juice from ½ lemon added to it each morning on an empty stomach. For best results, do not add salt or sugar.

2. Garlic

Garlic offers blood pressure lowering benefits. It helps relax blood vessels by stimulating the production of nitric oxide, which in turn lowers blood pressure, especially systolic blood pressure.

A 2008 study published in the journal BMC Cardiovascular Disorders suggests that garlic preparations are superior to placebo in reducing blood pressure in individuals with hypertension.

Garlic can even help improve blood circulation, lower cholesterol and prevent heart disease.

Eat 2 – 3 raw garlic cloves daily on an empty stomach. You can also take garlic supplements, but only after consulting your doctor.

3. Bananas

Eat 1- 2 bananas a day to lower blood pressure. The high potassium content of banana helps to lessen the effect of sodium, which in turn regulates blood pressure. In fact, regular intake of potassium-rich foods can reduce your risk of stroke and prevent heart disease.

According to a 2005 study, published in American Heart Association’s journal Hypertension, increased intake of foods high in potassium has the same effect on blood pressure as potassium chloride, which helps to lower blood pressure.

Slice a banana into your breakfast cereal or oatmeal, or take one to work every day for a quick, easy, and inexpensive snack.

4. Olive Oil (Extra Virgin)

Extra-virgin olive oil contains antioxidants called ‘polyphenols’, which help in reducing high blood pressure and even protect LDL (“bad”) cholesterol from oxidation. In addition, olive oil contains monounsaturated fatty acids that help improve heart health.

According to a 2000 study published in the Archives of Internal Medicine, use of extra-virgin olive oil can lower the daily antihypertensive drug dosage requirement.

Eat a few tablespoons of extra-virgin olive oil a day. Use it in healthy salad dressings or dips. You can use it for cooking or baking as well.

5. Tomatoes

Tomatoes contain lycopene and other carotenoids with antioxidant effects that help fight free radicals, lower the risk of heart disease, and reduce high blood pressure. In a 2011 study published in the journal Maturitas lycopene showed a significant systolic blood pressure reducing effect.

Also, a 2006 study published in the American Heart Journal, found that regular consumption of 250mg of tomato extract helped decrease both systolic and diastolic blood pressure.

Tomatoes are also rich in potassium that helps lower blood pressure and flushes sodium from your body.

Eat one cup of fresh tomatoes daily. You can add them in salads and sandwiches, as well as use them for making sauces and soups. Avoid eating canned tomatoes.

6. Blueberries

Blueberries are rich in flavonoids called anthocyanins that help prevent hypertension. In addition, the antioxidants in these berries help improve and maintain artery flexibility and thus help control blood pressure.

According to a 2011 study published in the journal American Society for Nutrition, anthocyanins help in controlling as well as preventing hypertension in adults.

Blueberries are easy to add to your diet. Add them to your cereal or smoothie every morning. You can even enjoy frozen blueberries as a quick and healthful dessert.

7. Beets

According to a 2010 study by researchers at the Queen Mary University of London, the nitrate content of beetroot juice helps in lowering blood pressure.

The nitrates in beetroot are converted into nitrites and then into a gas called nitric oxide, which helps widen the arteries and lower blood pressure. It can even reduce the risk of stroke, heart attack and other cardiovascular problems.

Drink a glass of beet juice daily to regulate your blood pressure. You can even include beets in your salad or soup.

8. Spinach

The folate, nitrate, potassium, magnesium and antioxidants in spinach help lower high blood pressure.

A 2013 study published in the journal of the Nitric Oxide Society suggests that nitrate-rich vegetables like spinach can lower systolic blood pressure and pulse pressure. They can even improve cardiovascular health in healthy men and women.

Include spinach in your diet in salads, soups and smoothies. You can even cook spinach leaves lightly and eat as a side dish.

9. Celery

Celery contains a phytochemical called 3-N-butylphthalide that relaxes the tissues of the artery walls to increase blood flow and reduce blood pressure. In addition, the magnesium and potassium content of celery help regulate your blood pressure.

According to a 2013 study published in the Journal of Medicinal Food, celery seed extracts have antihypertensive properties that can help in chronic treatment of elevated BP.

To enjoy this health benefit of celery, add it to your salad or soup. You can eat four celery stalks daily.
